oh, i get it. they become diffuse because their hearts filled up with so much christmas love and cheer (an emotional expression and thus theoretically creating negative density), they get to the negative threshold of a critical density point and reverse-collapse into white holes. thus their bodies spread out into fogs of what they used to be
