Another Adventure -- Part 1

  2nd/54   Σ28.801   Aug 17th 2015 11:00am

I would gladly do other formats for this compo, but this song drained me out of all my musical abilities for a while.

This is part 1 of one thing I used to do for well over an year, that recently died due to us arguing a lot.

I wanted to make this over 7 minutes originally, but due to reasons stated above, I decided to cut it short. Sorry...
...I will do Part 2 in a future compo, though! Hopefully a SPC Echoes 2? I'd keep it SPC, but I could do part 2 through another format... (kinda like another 30-minute adventure similar to this one... except with some 2a03 wizard... heh.)

Special shoutouts to KungFuFurby, SamW and Harumi Makoto for helping me with this. More special shoutouts to the inspirations of this.

I would have guessed that the string came from either Earthworm Jim 2 or Jim Lee's WildC.A.T.S... but I'm backing away from that one because we don't have a matching loop point (or the sample was dialed back a bit in length... or the source is from a different game... or it literally came from the Korg M1).

Journey of the Super Musician would have never happened with one SPC file, at least with my kind of crazy musical magic that I did with the NES. That one would have required a wildchip and an actual SNES ROM because I would have done data swapping.

@kff The string could be from anywhere for all I know, but atleast it's quite a good string...

Ahh, yes. Journey of the Super Musician. Now I remember. It's quite a nice... what would you call it? Soundtrack? I don't know. It's still nice.

I just realized something... although it doesn't affect your final result, you came dangerously close to a SNESMod limitation. I'm more likely to run into this than you since I have a tendency to make long songs, but early on, I discovered there was a 64 pattern limit. If you run into this problem, then typically it's time to start combining some patterns (an extreme version of pattern combining, combined with other optimizations, was done with my attempt at porting over Deuce Came Dancing... the pattern data alone ended up being way too large anyways, given I was taking a whopping 158 patterns and compressed it down to 52.).
