An ancient tower and an apricot tree in bloom
The photo was taken a couple of weeks ago in the mountain village of Verkhny Fiagdon, North Ossetia, Russia. Up to the end of the 19th century such towers were used as fortifications by the ossetians, the stones scattered in the foreground are remnants of the living quarters. The village still exists and its more than a thousand citizens live in the valley of the Fiagdon river in modern houses. These historical sites, however, are carefully preserved and revered by the locals.

The modern village is an hour's drive from my hometown, then there's a gravel road uphill, and then you need to go on foot, or rather climb sometimes
