I was just hacking away on my Channel F entry, which made me realize how wrong those drum timings really are. So I went ahead and tweaked those a little bit. Then I ran out of ROM space, so I also tweaked things so you can make larger cartridges. This wasn't possible in the days of old because MAME would have a fit about it, but it's been fixed a long time ago.

If you want to use the updated version, just replace main.asm with this:

If you're still not happy with the drum timings, you can tweak the values in main.asm line 95 (noise) and 149 (kick). A higher value shortens the note that follows the drum more.

^ nice thought as such, but at least for my SID entry, I think I prefer my own render, so putting it back up. sorry :P not that your render sounds bugged (the song has been afterall play-tested on a real machine before submitting), but also doesn't sound exactly as I wrote it. also, not every individual SID chip always sounds 100% the same even for the same model.

If I ever make MIDI ever again, then considering the SC-88 is the source of Microsoft and Apple's MIDI sounds in the first place... then I would be OK with giving in to curiosity on what it sounds like on that particular module, since I'm guessing it's a de-facto standard.

I actually have been voting recently on graphics. For ANSI, when one of the renders wasn't working properly, I got myself Mœbius up and running. PabloDraw, which I was also considering, turned out to be incompatible with my computer for being a 32-bit Intel Mac App (at least that's what I think happened there).

I think actually the Roland Virtual Sound Canvas soundset is the original source for the Microsoft GS wavetable synth and Apple software MIDI-synth (I think it's called?). It's more or less excactly the same as those two, except it has tons of instrument-patches covering every instrument in the SC-88Pro patch-map, and a bunch more of those low quality pcm-samples covering the additional patches - like 3D Pinball for Windows's relation to Full Tilt! Pinball
