Ok, so this has happened quite a number of times already. I don't know if it's been addressed yet or if anyone else experiences it besides me.
Somehow I have self favorited a number of my things and I know I never clicked the favorite button, but it somehow still happened?
... Is this a bug or what?

If you listen to an entry five times, it gets favourited
This does not exclude your own entries

i never got why autofavoriting was a thing. if i like a song - i click a button.

perhaps if someone likes a song but doesnt wanna show it they wont click the button--and thats where autofaving can get you haha

i guess its more of a pride thing with your own songs, it shows whos saying "my music sucks" and then listening to their song repeatedly

anyway this was all discussed a while back in a gigantic thread with arguments everywhere and not anything anyone has said here hasnt been said there @_@

i think self-favouriting should not be a thing unless we ourselves are able to click the play button on our own entries at 16 hertz

i'm really good at this! i'm not always at home and i like to hear my music from time to time. :)

puke can clarify this if i'm wrong, but my understanding is that the way favoriting was implemented is that it's just a play counter, not a dedicated field. so once that hits 5, it gets displayed in favorites.

best way to get around it IMHO is to open a 2nd browser for playing where you aren't logged in... it's still bitten me a few times though, if donloading breaks and i end up clicking the button several times :/

I listen to my MP3's once the source is posted and sometimes that means I listen to it multiple times until I get the proper source. It has made me favorite my songs on more than one occasion.

But I don't think it's a big deal, other than unintentional clutter. I am sure that everyone that has been on this website long enough knows that if you appear under your own favorites it's not because you are conceited, it's for other reasons.

Does it weird anyone else out that all the analyses about this function are "there's ways to work around it" and "it's not so bad"

Well maybe there is something to that. If updating code is prioritized I think this would fall pretty low on the list, just because it is so easily avoidable. Like, if the downsides outweighed the effort to remove this, it'd be gone already.

And I am pretty sure talking about this as a community on more than one occasion has taken more effort than it would ever take to avoid self-favoriting twenty times over. That is beautiful unbridled passion and I don't want it to change ever.

I'm not gonna lie, it's been kind of a huge inconvenience for me.

But like, I'm not broken up about it and I don't demand someone put effort into changing it, so I guess you have a poiiiiiiinnnnnnttttttt :v

Self-faves are an interesting phenomenon because I both liek and haeit them. It's inconvenient for sure but hilarious when it happens, so... uh... I dunno exactly where to weigh in on this! My input is useful!

The funny part is I do legitimately listen to my own stuff a whole lot (and sorta justify it for the same reasons golgi semi-quoted commandycan on; I write what I like to listen to, I guess), so it's like the site's going "I see what you're doing there" and posts it for the world to see because prankiness.

We're all still totally narcissists though.

commandycan is right, the system simply records your listens/donloads no matter whose entry it is, even your own

THE PATH OF FAVORITES IN TEH FUTUREZ -
I haven't allowed editing/organizing your own favorites because it is also a record indirectly of how many entries you've listened/donloaded. I have considered making this count worth points (100 per leechist point maybe?) or at least displaying it on profiles. Since I never came up with a final decision I've left things as they are.
Also, since we still don't have items, there is not a humility helmet to keep yourself from autofavoriting your own entry. There could also be another type of item to keep autofavoriting at bay altogether too. Finally, organizing/ordering/deleting favorites will cost small boon fees whenever it is actually implemented.

could you elaborate on the difference between the humility helmet and the other item you mentioned?
