This is a thread for brainstorming battle ideas. All ideas welcome!

Here's one from me:

XHB Bartok

Bartok
is a card game where the winner of each round makes a new rule to add on for the rest of the game. The game thus gradually accumulates more and more rules.

In the XHB Bartok series, the winner of each battle chooses a new rule to add to the bitpack for the next round, which they secretly DM to the host. The battle series thus gradually accumulates more and more rules.

It might need some tweaking, for example perhaps the winner could also change or remove an old rule to prevent the bitpack from getting overly restrictive.

Not sure how well this would work in practice, which is why I think it might be a better theorycraft than actual battle. But feel free to take the idea if you want!

(Apologies if a thread like this already exists, I couldn't find one!)

ooh i can finally write this down somewhere. :D

what i struggle with a bit when i think of hosting, is implementing the idea and then needing to ride with what i came up with or made to use. what i like about doing battles is it's typically a fun surprise that i have to make work.

before i saw this product from Andrew Huang, i had an idea of making something like this for battles long ago (i think inspired from adibabidan's battles), but seeing it in this form really put it into reality for me - https://andrewhuang.com/store/p/the-book-of-chances

purely overview level, i'd like to program something that can spit out an image that contains multiple elements that can be used to inspire music.

an image and some text sourced from public domain works i think is a good way to get a vibe. i think worst case is they clash vibes a lot and it's at least funny. i was thinking user-submitted inputs could be fun, but i doubt it'd be that popular so would need to source it all. then musical elements, probably just random generations or pulled from a big repo - i like how Andrew does it on the cards, it provides a nudge in a direction while also not trying to be overly restrictive, and you're meant to pull multiple cards. but for battles i think it'd be fun to have a random chance of more restrictive elements appearing for the prompt. like, 20% chance there's a BPM restriction, 5% chance you need to include *dice roll* a flute, 5% you need to perform an element live, 1% you need to throw a bitcrusher on your master bus.

has something close to this been done before on botb? i really can't think of anything.
