Hello! (Almost) every year since 2005, I have co-organized a genre-free compilation of holiday music covers/remixes/arrangements. In every prior year it has essentially been a curated, invite-only affair decided by a council of holiday dinos, but since things have been so unreasonably busy and intense for me (and the world, frankly) this year we have opened the invite to literally anyone who can string together some notes! (Besides, holidays are *supposed* to be inclusive.) 15 days is plenty of time for even the busiest BotBr!
The full details are available HERE
But, the quick version is this:
1. Cover any song that is associated with the season. It can be as ubiquitous as jingle bells or sleigh ride, as uncommon as a cartoon holiday special's musical number, or as obscure as a forgotten winter hymn or holiday season toy commercial jingle. Remixes are also okay, sample-heavy plunderphonic work that splices together a bunch of holiday content is cool, doing an arrangement of multiple songs is great!
2. Send it to christmasasaurus@gmail.com by December 20th along with a description of what you covered/remixed/etc as well as the title (EXACTLY as you want it to appear on bandcamp), artist name (EXACTLY as you want it to appear on bandcamp), and one link so if people wanna hear more of you, they can
3. Wait for Christmas Eve when we drop that business
4. I post a receipt next year for the donation to the charity we chose if people paid for the comp (we always pick a local level harm reduction org as opposed to larger organizations where it's kinda unclear how the money is used)
NO ORIGINALS btw, sorry!!
But yeah, please read the full rules on the dropbox link.
ANY kind of music is welcome. The comp has its roots in chiptune, cybergrind, synthpop, breakcore, and experimental stuff but we've done all manner of sounds!!! Please listen to some!!!
Okay, thanks I really hope some of you give it a shot! The charity aspect is nice, but the main goal above all else is to just make holiday songs interesting and spread some of this "cheer" I have heard so much about.
