AFTER MUCH CRUNCH, GRAVITY BREAK'S CREATIVE BATTLE SYSTEM, "THE WALL", IS GOING LIVE @
http://gravitybreak.media/wall.php
MIDNIGHT SUNDAY GMT
8 PM SATURDAY EST
7 PM SATURDAY CDT
6 PM SATURDAY MDT
5 PM SATURDAY PDT
3 PM SATURDAY Alaska
2 PM SATURDAY Hawaii
Battle creation will be offline until the testing party begins, but I'll open it up here and there for the hell of it so we can do smaller tests together. I'll be on Discord for that. I'll also open up the first compo, a 24-hour Kixel riot, once we have enough community objective submissions.
So while we're waiting for that, please contribute by submitting objectives and samples on the wall page! You must be logged in and at least level 1 to contribute.
The only feature currently missing is being able to put stickers on comments, which will come whenever I feel like doing it. There is some art missing, so please be patient while I get that done. Drawing is hard.
QUESTIONS THAT AREN'T FREQUENTLY ASKED BUT PROBABLY WILL BE IN THE FUTURE
Q: So this is a compo website you've made?
A: Not...exactly. Gravity Break is an Art Community & Alternate Reality Game that just happens to have a battle system. This is a collaborative universe that, though mainly spearheadeded by me, will ultimately be fleshed out by the community through whatever means I manage to build. That's why I'm so open to feature suggestions right now.
Q: I don't see a way to start compos :<
A: Get your account to level 1! You have to be level 1 before you can interact with compos. The easiest way to do this is to make an avatar using the Kixel Creator once you log in.
Q: Who are Jadley and Beeflode?
A: The compo mascots! At least for scrap-type battles. I have to draw more illustrations of them for the UI.
Q: Is there some kind of story happening here?
A: Yes. More to come on that, but you might find some clues already.
Q: What are the formats?
A: There aren't any. This isn't a replacement for BotB, and the battles work totally differently. Battles are split by medium instead - in this case, Kixel, Art, and Music, with more on the way. Music is split into three separate categories, which map onto Allgear, Feature (a ruleset BotB doesn't have), and Remix. There are two battle types - Scraps, which are duels between two creators; and Riots, which are battle royales that can host any number of players.
Q: What are Feature battles?
A: Kinda like Allgear with a bitpack. You upload any one sample you want, and all participants have to use that sample. They can use whatever other tools they want, but the sample must be featured in the track and be reasonably recognizable.
Q: And the sample packs for Remix battles?
A: Submitted by the community and randomly distributed into the fight once a Remix battle starts. Please contribute by getting your account to Level 1 and using the sample submission form! Also, submit community objectives for compos.
Q: So is there a badge system?
A: What part of "this is not BotB" do you not understand?!?!?! But yeah, basically. Pins are earned by racking up points earned in battles. The better you do, the more battle points you get, and once you earn enough for a pin, you'll also get new privileges when instigating battles.
Q: Why can't I set the battle length?
A: You need more battle points for that! Once you earn a pin in a battle category, more options will open up. If you do REALLY well, you could find yourself in charge of All-Night battles...
Q: I'm not getting my confirmation / password reset email.
A: Dude, I have no idea what's up with Dreamhost's mail system. It often takes a REALLY long time to get the email. Check your spam, and failing that, just wait a while, I guess. Sorry. I'll make this a mission if the issue gets out of control.
Q: When can I link my BotB account?
A: As soon as Puke creates the code generator, which is gonna be difficult considering his home is currently being destroyed by an avalanche, rock slide, and tornado. Just give it some time.
Q: When will I be able to change comment/compo colors?
A: When I implement the Skill Tree, which is the next GIANT project so you won't see that for a while.
Q: Why do I have to be over 18 to sign up?
A: Gravity Break is going to have a lot of vent art and stories with adult themes, and it'll encourage its users to post the same. It's not obvious yet, but this will be more of an omnipresent thing as time goes on. So, to enable creative freedom and ensure that such punk aesthetics don't influence impressionable children (only impressionable adults), no minors are allowed in. So, to be clear, pretty much all types of content are allowed, except for those which promote hateful ideologies, or are illegal to post.
Q: Do you need money?
A: WOW IT'S SO NICE OF YOU TO ASK! YES PLEASE CLICK THAT DONATE BUTTON IN THE BOTTOM-RIGHT AND GIVE ME MONEY IF YOU WANT TO SEE MORE STUFF LIKE THIS, AND DON'T FORGET TO SMASH THAT SUBSCRIBE BUTTON AND HIT THE NOTIFICATION BELL FOR MOR
Q: I also wanna know about--
A: Look, just use the website and figure it out. A lot of Gravity Break is about finding things and figuring stuff out yourself.
