Just kind of curious!

How many instruments do you usually set up for your tracks? And how many instruments do you set up for a sega track?

Just asking this out of curiousty and to evolve my writing.

Like for example, 1 lead, 1 chord progression, 1 bass, 1 brass etc

Any input would be much appreciated.

looking at an adlib module i did: 2 drums, 4 cymbals, 1 bass (!), 5 leads, 2 chordal instruments, and 6 other chord/lead samples instruments i didn't label. i "typically" allocate the nine channels as 2 drums, 1 bass, 4 chord, 2 lead.

if i were writing for the genesis/mega drive, i'd have to cut down on the number of channels i use (starting by dropping notes from chord voicings), but i'd probably use the same number of instruments. on the master system i'd have to drop more of each.

it depends on what kind of music you're making, though.
