I've been using Anvil Studio for a bit. I thought I'd make this thread to see what you use or what you can recommend to someone who is new to digital music making.

My bias because its what I started with for chiptune, but I'd give famitracker a go - its probably the most documented in terms of tutorials on youtube and the like.

openmpt, it's easy and besides the support for oldskool module formats there's several converters for other formats (zxbeep, snes, etc)

Yep openmpt does open the way up for tracking in other chips. What you may need consider is that some trackers differ in the way fx commands work. It personally took me a lot longer to feel happy with openmpt, but that's because I aleady had a different point of comparison with famitracker. Perhaps starting fresh with openmpt, you may not encounter the same problems :)

You hit the nail on the head with OpenMPT, gotoandplay. As someone who started with FT, transitioning to OpenMPT felt weird. I still haven't gotten fully used to it yet, as I haven't done much with sampled sounds.

Look around and see what you like, but here's a few I would recommend:
OpenMPT
LSDj (Gameboy)
FamiTracker (NES/Famicom)
VGM Music Maker (Genesis/Mega Drive)
SunVox (This one has been ported to many mobile devices, but you will have to pay for it on some of them. It's free on PC.)
GoatTracker (C64)
Raster Music Tracker (Atari 800)
