I though famitracker is limited to get one change in its module. Is this some sort of multichip justu I haven't learned yet?

John & KungFuFurby, I used a multichip pack I found on the famitracker forms. Apparently it has 'support' for multichip. (support used loosely though, it can't export nsf's with multichip (yet) ) This is one of the reasons a Famitracker format was made, for these multichip songs w/o needing to know or use MML. To do it, you modify the file header with a hex editor. That's about as much as I know since I've never actually tried it myself.

There's a much simpler method than that - the text export registers expansions in powers of 2, so:

1 = VRC6
2 = VRC7
4 = FDS
8 = MMC5
16 = N163
32 = 5B

Provided you add the required number of columns in the file as well (as easy as adding a few numbers onto two lines), an expansion number of 25 would be 16+8+1, and the resulting text-imported FTM would be N163+MMC5+VRC6.

(Keep in mind that in-tracker, the expansions are ordered from lowest number, so VRC6 appears left-most, and N163 right-most.)

I was trying to create a song with every multichip expansion there was. Using the number 63, I can go crazy. However, the file won't save because famitracker doesn't support sunsoft module. I dont think that even exists in famitracker to begin with. What exactly is wrong with what I'm doing?

5B exists; it's unfinished, buggy, not recommended for use and jsr is honestly considering removing it to avoid any further trouble

Unless I'm terribly mistaken, the current 0.4.3 BETA outright refuses to load any modules that use the 5B. :P

You can't use all expansions in famitracker. This is actually a bug in 0.4.2. There are two forks out there that "fix" this problem, but they do it in such a clumsy way that the resulting multi-chip modules are incompatible with famitracker.

I don't think it'll hurt that much if you drop one of these chips. ;)

5b in famitracker, even in it's current state, is pretty useful for multichip ftms. you can use 5b for noise which is MUCH louder than the noise in 2a03. it's even more useful when you use vrc7.

Wait, so you CAN use (a buggy form of) 5B? When I enable it I just get 3 square channels and I can't make instruments for any of them... hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

This song is amazing! So much variety and flavors to this piece, and enjoy the use of multiple chips. My favorite one yet in the Spring Tracks. I won't be joinin' you guys this time around, but maybe we'll all have fun in the Summer?
