My nerdy toy of the moment is a radio scanner.

Being ham radio licensed has always been one of my "when I get to it" goals. My uncle and brother and several acquaintances through my life had licenses and with that hobby comes some electricity skills that translate to other things.

It's also an expensive hobby, so the scanner shows me what I might hear in my neighborhood at a lower cost. The majority of this is air traffic.

I must be careful when using the recordings, though, because location mentions and frequencies can be used to triangulate and learn where my house is.
