for what it's worth, no one is under obligation to make 'video game music' for yea videogame haha, at least it was not conceived as such, and i seldom do. the name for "series featuring SNES samples" is not especially descriptive but it's catchy and it stuck

Great in principle, but we know what voters want and if it isnt evocative of a traditional theme within a videogame setting (town, boss, credits, puzzle, dungeon, encounter, 'zone') you can see from the scores what is expected

interesting.. with respect to xhbs i wonder if this is because themeing/titling can help set your entry apart and deliver expectations based on the title. or the accessibility of familiarity. i would have to do some combing through all the xhb series to back this claim up but i don't think anywhere near everybody adheres to that kind of style in the series! take coda, or bgo, or me, all doing our own things. and not a whole lot of entries in the top 20 of the major edition skew gamey either really
