"all office programs in there yo let's see the pc98 music" -- vombot

entry is the "near-billionaire studio rock mix"! got there over halfway by Bambootracker -- .zip file has .btm and .s98 files for raw pc-98 versions and how-it's-mades
BAMBOOTRACKER
I get basic FM saw from 2op 1:1 w upstream "volume" around 43. basic FM square wave from 2op 2:1 w volume somewhere in 30s iirc
fake clarinets here have a 3op chain where a 2op soft saw's going 2:1 into the sound wave to sharpen and flat-top the final wave
fake horns have 1:1:1 deal here; basic horn works 2op 1:1 w higher upstream volume than w saw, the middle of the wave will lay flat w alternating spike teeth. iirc I ran a sine upstream a 2op FM saw and got the horn. for "clarinet" and "horn" I also have op1 adding some kinda dirt or rumble -- rolled it in, rolled it back until its absence left the sound feeling "empty", then rolled it home or close enough
fake bass had me running 2op FM saw into 2op FM saw like "stock Deflemask bass" does w raw sines
long-not-infinite decay on just about all upstream operators so instruments can breathe thru time
there's an extra instrument in the .btm! does nothing in the song. was gonna bell the hell out of the chorus or do smth style-wise really "FM" yet the mix never sat. too much treble mb. 3:4 at just the right volume gives me a really cool bell/lead thing. did me no good here. harmonized another "horn" instead and called it a day
almost forgot -- there's another semi-clarinet that shows up; did a 1:1:1 deal where the furthest upstream operator pushes the 2op horn shape into a slanted soft square. darker and fuller than the main "clarinet"
FL STUDIO
wanted to keep integrity of song + make it more big and shiny
too many de-mudding hi-passes to mention -- most v mild
panning's all over the place
horns went thru RC-20 "tube" distortion, widener; duplicate reverb track made for tracker style reverb, then I threw TAL Chorus on the verb track; horn buss boosted wide around 750hz
clarinets went thru wideners, duplicate verb tracks also got stock FL Studio "flangus". clarinet buss got light TAL Chorus, EQ wide dip around 1khz, light sidechain to make drums pop
bass boosted wide 500hz and run light thru ThrillseekerXTC, also light sidechain to make room for drums
drums ducked hard 750hz -- pc-98 drum output from Bambootracker's already scooped there, I scooped more. too many lite boosts in obvs spots to list. reverbed w payware H Reverb Stereo 5.1. output also bussed out to get crushed with Molot compressor, blended w non-crushed; most drum sound here is non-crushed
MAJORDECIBEL
the big magic online computer cluster will hear and know stuff I don't -- did medium mastering at warmest!
