i had almost forgotten about the mario paint exploits (see http://battleofthebits.com/academy/GroupThread/15054/Mario+Paint+Shenanigans/) that allow tempos, notes, and song lengths that aren't ordinarily accessible. extended songs aren't perfect, though. the undo buffer almost directly after the current song in memory is safe, but some other memory that you can extend your song into/past without crashing the game gets overwritten at runtime.

.sho format doesn't support this sort of thing, so the entry is a snes9x savestate.
