I like this - it's got kind of a bittersweet Pyrrhic victory feeling to it. Like driving away from your home city after a long hard fight in the late hours of the night.
Looking at the smoke and fire behind you, cool breeze blowing through your hair. The enemy has been slain, but your city has been razed. Childhood memories, friends, and loved ones gone.
You take one last look back at what was once your city as it fades off in the post-apocalyptic distance.
