This sounds a billion times better with headphones

Aji -- What did you use to render the mp3??? Did it come straight from a tracker? if so, which one -- Schism?? This sounds better than MilkyTracker's direct output (I even fiddled with the config). Yours sounds normalized.. [personal note] I prefer the output direct from schism.

MS -- this threw my theory on [rhythm/envelopes/pitch being the most important than the samples themselves]... The wub of the sample could be viewed as an envelope in itself but it's undoubtedly more complex than that. I'm starting to realize an equal importance in the sample's involvement with the piece... Nonetheless I think I would have fun composing with a style that only places emphasis on envelopes/pitch/rhythm with a disregard for the samples applied. we should do, as you recommended, an OHB where participants are not allowed to listen to the song as they create it. :)

yes, it sounds much better on headphones, or really any system that can reproduce the deep sine wave during the "chorus", since imo that adds a lot of the punch

it's rendered straight from schism, with no interpolation. for the record, milky does a bad job with .it playback.
