Perhaps, two channels with the same note played were used to simulate volumes.

I wonder if the chip sounds just a little different to me because it's PAL and all my machines are NTSC. :D

@Warlord, I take that as a compliment :p In fact mod2vic offers even less control over volumes than victracker since there's no seperate volume channel.
