i just wonder where you draw the line between allgear and wildchip, because i wouldnt count this as valid wildchip, especially/mainly because yuzu didnt explain the instrumentation in the description and it doesnt sound like chip-music at all.

i dont think there needs to be much of a line, wildchip has always been a very open category (and people rarely explain the instrumentation...lol). everyone has a different idea of what chip music is/should be/etc, but realistically there are plenty of sound chips with full sampling capabilites, this song could easily be featured in an n64 game or something, for example. its also worth considering this is (i believe) a .it file which is good enough for me. i think the distinction between wildchip and allgear is the creative influence rather than a truly different format specification - theres a good reason we don't usually see allgear and wildchip in the same compo imo

i think the style is very chippy and it sounds like a lot of "chippy" instruments and simple waveforms

I thought Wild Chip was more short for Wild Chiptune, because Wild Chiptune sounds fucking stupid, innit?

All gear means you can use anything (guitars/balloons/kids piano from Target) to make music in the style of the competition, that doesn't even have to sound like a chiptune.

Wild Chip means you can use anything to make something in the style of the chiptune that sounds like a chiptune.

From the lyceum: "while the format has the same format liberties as allgear, it's restricted to chiptune-sounding entries."

And chiptune is a music genre, which doesn't even mean it has to sound like it was from a console soundchip, just in the the chiptune genre.

Super sick chiptune! It totally sounds like n64/ps1, even if it hadn't been mentioned.

My ownly criticism is that the bells that come in around :40 are way too loud, they are totally disproportionate to everything else in the mix. Otherwise this is stellar.

Do you mind telling me where you found the synth that plays at 0:27, and possibly where you found the bells at 0:40?
I have been looking for synth sounds like these for ages!

Great track by the way!
