Ray Steiner's Hot Shot Billiards (1990) - Heavy Wager

Minor updates, 1/3: mainly volume tweaks and to replace the mp3 render. I think the loopback via my headphones creates a weird "room reverb" effect that made parts echo more than I had programmed. Maybe it's also in my head lol.

Ray Steiner is a king of the slate: he knows all the angles, can hit all the shots, and wins all the money.

The question is, can you, rookie, climb the billiard ranks and challenge for the throne? Your break!

Tried to go old-school and "authentic" with this tune: all waveforms, no PCM, excepting the pool break sample to start the song.

I have a tendency to get frustrated with waveform formats because I can't quite manage the smoother output I can do with FM, so I focused more on composing with any patches I could make to sound decent and less on sound design.

To get some ideas, I went to vgmrips to find some better PC-Engine soundtracks. I really enjoyed the tracks on Break In, so I imagined my track as something from a cheesy pool title with a random face on the title to cater to American audiences, hence the ultimate pool hustler, Ray Steiner.

Made in Furnace. foobar playback converted to mp3.

Ah, I can see that image of Ray Steiner, and it oozes sophistication... The noise drum beat underpinning everything works a treat!

that bass line and groove are absolutely stunning and i could get lost in 'em. i need to listen on something that's not a laptop to confirm this next thought's accuracy, but my impression was the lead is quite loud compared to the accompaniment. maybe i'm missing some bass or something though!
