Welcome to the most restricted format. It's a single channel of square wave beepy goodness. It has exactly two volume levels: Silent, and ear piercingly loud. It's controlled by a basic timer chip, so you can't even bit-bang it for PWM or PCM shenanigans (without doing some low level hardware hackery).

On the upside, the timer is quite a long one, so you can hit pretty much the entire audible range. And yeah, that's about the only upside I can think of.

The sheer flexibility and unpredictability of PC setups ensured that people were still porting their tunes into this archaic format well into the 90s. Let's see what you can make of it.

- beepfeel
- beeptech
- beepheart
- beep in pants

ah dang, I was thinking about a similarly themed beeper battle

Would be down for this, even on a PC speaker, I've seen some crazy stuff made for it

i guess would have to be an x86 executable, to run on either hardware or emulator with pc speaker emulation

For those of you screeching your piezos on Loonucks, you're gonna want the original, setuid beep—not the fork. The latter is no good for music because of timing issues.

Not sure about format. Wildchip would probably do the job, of course. I know Furnacetracker can do PC speaker and there's a couple trackers specifically for it, but both options would restrict x86 cleverness etc.

I always wondered why PC speaker wasn't a format yet. I'd love to see this as a battle.

i would say fsound technically but that's more a music engine for the pc speaker, not the pc speaker itself
