Well, I've made a couple of test tracks and a few unfinished collab tracks with C64 but this is my first complete C64 track that I've made in Deflemask that I am decently happy with. It's a bit on the short side and I am far from a master at this but I think what is here is at least a fun listen. I hope you guys like it for what it is. Thanks for checking it out :).

Update! The awesome MovieMovies1 has taken it upon himself to port my tune to Goattracker so that the sid can be properly heard. I have replaced it. Thank you sir. You guys are cool :D.

Your SID file is broken; Almost all drums are nonexistent, and the melody line disappears at at least one point.
I tested it in 4 different SID players (SIDPlay 2.6, Foobar SID plugin, and jsidplay on Windows, and SIDplay64 running in the VICE x64sc emulator) and got the same result in all of them, except for SIDPlay64 where it crashed the emulated machine.

Lol, I don't know man. I can upload the Deflemask file somewhere to prove it was made in a tracker with Sid limitations at least. I didn't have anything to play back the file emulated or real on hand so I just did the format I thought it needed. I had no idea it would screw it up that badly.

https://www.mediafire.com/?1t6vz4t28yvcd08 Here you go. The mp3 is just the wav output from the tracker. It's my first try with sid anyway so take it for what you will. I chose the 8580 chip and not the 8581 and they both sound quite different so I don't know if maybe that makes a huge difference. Anyway, I don't know what to tell you. I tried, and obviously I had no intention of passing off some fakebit as the real thing so you know ;). Please don't crucify me :P.

errr I mean I didn't choose the 6581 but the 8580, and I tested it in the tracker with the other chip and yeah it sounds waaaay different so maybe that has at least something to do with it. Sorry, it's like 6 in the morning and I haven't slept yet because I'm ridiculous.

The problem isn't anything to do with 'fakebit' or anything like that, it is more with how deflemask handles the c64, which is done in a very poor fashion. I have never seen it fail this spectacularly with its export before tho, which is already quite poor (exporting files that take up almost half the memory of the c64, most likely caused by deflemask's export being only register dumps afaik).

I sincerely have no idea how deflemask did such a spectacularly poor export of this, and the worst thing is that the broken export is consistent, so I really have no idea what could possibly be done to fix it.
It's especially strange considering all the other SIDs submitted to this compo, which were all also made with deflemask, all play decently fine from what i could tell (except for with sidplay64 in vice, all of them made the emulated c64 crash).

In my opinion, just avoid using DefleMask for C64 at all due to how poorly it is handled, both filesize and how this track inexplicably has broken export. I'd suggest trying to use GoatTracker or a native editor of sorts instead.

with that being said, i do like this track, and i'm disheartened by the export being as broken as it is

Well, I appreciate you trying all those things to test it anyway. I don't know how well I'd be able to grasp something like Goat Tracker and I kind of went with Deflemask because I already knew how to do the other chips with it more or less so it was less hard of a learning curve. Maybe someday though. I guess all I can say is that I meant well and sorry the sid itself is so screwed. Maybe I can very slowly learn something else that does sid music as I have a friend who is learning cheese cutter I think it's called? lol We'll see what happens. Thanks for trying, and I'm glad you like the mp3 render of the tune at least lol.

I've been able to run this .sid in emulator using PSID64. I've also run my own songs on hardware before using it so if you're really desperate to hear it on hardware use it. It seems to be the only hardware player that works with defle generated .sids

Also great job!

pegmode, the original deflemask sid does indeed play with psid64, but the problems with that sid file was, as stated, that all the drums were missing and that the melody line just doesn't play at times. i guess it doesn't really matter any more now that the sid is replaced with the gt2 port tho

Well, I appreciate everyone regardless. The very idea that someone was able to go that far to make sure one of my tunes works properly is silly amounts of awesome :). This is what it means to be part of the chip community. If that's the case, then I don't think I ever want to leave :). You guys rock :).
