I've been lowkey wanting to make some kind of Sabre Wulf clone for a while now. It's a ZX Spectrum game that I've never played and is notoriously brutal. At first I was going to join NESmaker's Byte Off IV game jam, but I found the NESmaker tool itself too distracting from actually making a game. But a TIC80 BotB game jam was exactly what I needed to play around with this concept.

Unfortunately, I didn't leave myself enough time to get combat working or to really flesh out the animals/enemies. The flamingos could dart at you; the monkeys are supposed to be throwing coconuts; the map itself isn't fleshed out enough; sound effects aren't utilized...

this is kinda cool!
gonna start by saying that these graphics are really good, I love the zx spectrum style going on here!
the background also looks very interesting :)
also, the music, while very short, is nice aswell

managed to get a time of on my 1st playthrough 2:00.04

can definitely see how the game can be expanded (if you so wish to)

feel like I'm missing the 'time' element on this - but it's so bright and colourful, and the sounds fit the looks, and the snakes keep chasing me

@blockblockblock -- maybe a lazy usage of "time" but it tells you how long it took you to find the 4th dingle -- I was going to add the timer to the top of the screen but forgot :thonk:
