Giant Yoshi Inflatable

Beach day with Yoshi today. Sun's out, guns out, and Koopas better watch out.

Made with Furnace version 0.6.8.3 and converted to .spc via furSPC.

Resubmit: The audio render in this track should finally be truly SPC-compatible at the cost of losing almost all SNES echo.

It is STRONGLY recommended that you listen to another version of this track with the intentional sound here (YouTube link for accessibility

Your SPC file is faulty because the echo buffer overlaps the sample data. If it helps, I recommend lowering the EDL to 3 or less, going by where the sample data ends in the SPC file.

oop, yeah I re-rendered the spc (for this should always be the source of the render) but I have a strong suspicion you should resubmit with a repaired spc file - it sounds cool but probably not at all what you intended :p

what are you rendering the spc on? chipamp and chiptune.app seem to render the song pretty much fine. we were having issues with the song glitching out when the ay machine discord bot was rendering it.

also yeah thanks for the heads up on the rules of rendering since we werent sure if it was actually a requirement or just a general preference to stay authentic to hardware. we had a working spc render ready its just we opted to keep the furnace one since the end of the song broke a little bit.

Changed the audio render to a Winamp recording provided by NikoAnimation.

Edit: Changed the audio render again and this track should finally be truly SPC-compatible at the cost of losing almost all SNES echo.

whoops i just helped with the track, didn't know much about the rendering process... at least it all got sorted out in the end!

either way, this was a fun track to help work on, the SNES is fun :)

I rendered with spcplay, and I can confirm that it sounds equally broken playing back on actual hardware as it does in spcplay. if you found something that gave you a functional render then I imagine it's because of *inaccurate* emulation

I'm not gonna keep replacing your render because I don't want to be a jackass but imo you should try and fix the problem, resubmit the entry, and then re-render in spcplay - otherwise we have to vote on a technically broken entry

I've seen technically broken entries before... I tend to record the problem they have on my end. I also tend to ignore the renders, mostly because I am a cheapskate in memory consumption, when I can just get roughly the same thing for a mere 64KB (or up to a megabyte or 2 for a ROM if needed), which causes me to bypass the intended version sometimes.

could one of you send what it sounds like on your end to one of us so we can better diagnose the problem?

based on what KFF said above, my half-educated guess is that there isn't enough space in the spc for samples, song data, and chosen echo delay time setting, which all need to add up to 64KB or less. every increment of the echo delay time costs 2KB.

so the first thing to troubleshoot - also as KFF alluded to - would be reducing the echo delay time to something very small. if KFF's hunch is right, a setting of 3 / 48ms or less. maybe even try 1 just for testing. if it starts working in spcplay after that, you've found your problem, one of space. if not, we can re-assess

I won't be at my pc to re-post my render until tonight, but you can try out spcplay for yourself and see between now and then
