Appreciate the dedication! As a Genesis kid, these sounds take me back. In fact, that kick + snare combo haunts me. I remember it distinctly from Kid Chameleon and pretty much every game Mark Miller composed tracks for. I noticed the percussion shift halfway through — those were FM as well? They sounded a lot better, so wondering if there were some default samples built in, too.

The perc samples in the second part are from Comix Zone. Wouldn't be surprised if they were used in other games too.
