something about this reminds me a lot of "Sword Search" from Link's Awakening (the song that plays during the early part of the game when you still need to find your sword). Maybe the chord progression? Like, you could totally play the melody over this and it would be fit pretty darn well.

Yes! It's pretty much the same IV iii ii I progression as that tune :)
I've always liked that sound. Link's Awakening is maybe my fav Zelda game!
