*Narrative*

Our local amusement park has a roller coaster called The Racer, featuring red and blue trains that "race" one another on similar but distinct tracks. You and your friends are to divvy up based on which one you think will finish first. To this day, I haven't the slightest of a clue if the winner is determined by mechanical randomness (total passenger load probably plays a heavy role?) or the whims of the unenthused seasonal hire pressing the start buttons.

Regardless, I imagined a kart game course that shared the fundamental elements of two paths: one is safer, but winding and circuitous, while the other is much more direct, but takes you along a perilous route adjoined to the face of a cliff. Naturally, there is some specific path that you can take using a mix of both after you've found it on GameFAQs or your older cousin shows you how to do it.

*Production*

DAW: Renoise

Samples: mixed drums (some Rolands and other collected files over the years); lots of instrumentation from the Mario Kart DS remix battle; guitar lead is a sample made using my PodXT; voice sample found on Sample Focus — no idea of its original source.

I used mainly native effects, e.g. reverb and filters, esp. for the intro bit. Ozone 5 (yes 5 lol) was used to just clean up the mix instead of performing the tedious labor myself, which doubtless would've made the mix much worse lol.

Ooh, nice to know some of those Mario Kart DS samples are here. Your use of vocal samples is clever. They are only used in quieter parts, so they never interfere with the music. Neat. This has an overall decent Jazz Jackrabbit 2 feel to me, especially when the melody at 0:35 kicks in.

Great work haberchuck.

I love the visual of watching an older cousin show you the secrets to the level :)

There's a shortcut behind that waterfall!

Thank you all for the nice comments!

@ordinate: yeah totally my bad — I read the lyceum and realized I really didn't embrace the chip aspect. I usually use samples and such derived from tracker patches I've made, but I stopped and started so many times on this submission that, once I got going, I kind of lost direction with the format. Thanks for listening and liking nonetheless!
