City Pop comes from the 70s and 80s japanese jazz fusion/pop scene.
It was popularised recently in the west by the viral success of "Plastic Love by Mariya Takeuchi" on YouTube.

City Pop build on top of and uses a lot of jazz harmony in a really catchy and accessible pop format.
