WOW! Just wow! This is incredible.
So I did my usual orchestral track this year but this time it's slightly different.
In anticipation for my move to Scotland for my masters in composition in a few months, I wanted to get as much composition experience as I could before then. The conductor of the UNSW wind symphony, who I've known and played under for about six years, has been hinting for a while that he wanted me to write a piece for them, and finally I decided to just do it because what the hell, you're only young once.
Many thanks to the UNSW Wind Symphony for premiering my work at our concert a few weeks ago. It's not a perfect recording by any means but it was a hard piece, and not quite what we were used to! For a no-auditions ensemble made up of a mix of music and non music students, I think we did alright. (I say 'we' because as much as I would've liked to just sit in the audience and watch, we didn't have enough percussionists so I had to jump in and play! You can hear me, for example, playing the vibraphone after the 4 minute mark which turned out a lot louder than I'd intended...)

I also currently have a work for wind quintet in progress, written for a quintet made up of members of the UNSW orchestra, but a recording of that will still be a month or two away!
This also happens to be my 100th entry on BOTB, which seems fitting as it's my most ambitious and large-scale one yet by far.
Also, just a reminder that you can contribute to my masters degree if you'd like :)
