Appendix: Egg Locations

An homage to the experience of reading about secrets in video games and thinking "how on earth was anyone supposed to figure that out?"

Threading the needle between something that feels like an authentic walkthrough -- a pretty dry reading experience in the absence of an actual game -- and something that's entertaining to read was an interesting exercise. I feel like I leaned a little too far in the former direction here, but I'm curious to hear what people think.

(also, credit to my partner for coming up with the last step of Egg #3)

really well done! imo this felt true to the medium and fun to read at the same time. covering just an isolated appendix was a clever way to cut the format down to something manageable while still feeling like a complete thought

this is an oblique but perfect way to explain why I can't tolerate RPGs

Agree with Jangler, great idea to write just an appendix. It helps paint a mysterious picture of the larger game, letting one's imagination fill in the details.

The two bits that stood out to me were 1) the hasty ascii maps that show a loose idea of where you're at and supposed to go and 2) the dizzying array of "if/then" conditions that impact the availability of the Easter eggs.

I replayed Tales of Phantasia on a PSX emulator FOR HOURS, no walkthrough, and got every last damn secret except to the final bonus, hyper-strong-enemy-having dungeon because you're supposed to chat with some inconspicuous jagoff at the tavern littered somewhere on the world map. Madness, I say.

That diatribe aside, I know exactly the kind of gamer who'd want this info and it makes it that much better!

I think this was a good approach to take - finding easter eggs in games was always one of my very favorite things, and the note at the end with undiscovered egg #9 was really reminiscent for me if this kinds of unsolved mysteries that would have piqued my curiosity when I was younger. It reminds of how in Perfect Dark N64 there were these pieces of cheese craftily hidden in many of the stage maps that served no known purpose, and at the time they were not all discovered yet and reading this kind of stuff made me want to be one of the ones to find it.

The visual was really good and seemed like discovering these easter eggs would be both challenging and exciting.

Egg 4 and 5 gave me a good smirk, probably the most uniquely formatted entry. Also, just the secrets being Eggs gives me war flashbacks to Banjo Tooie's egg rewards.

THX 4 THE GUIDEZ N00B!!

Egg #7 is ALWAYS the worst one to get, I think the dev made the requirement 12 eggs just for the lulz. BTW why didn't you put egg #9 on the guide? U don't need skillz for it, and it has been known for years.
