Well, I decided to man up a little and post my first real original here to see what people think of it. I do not expect to get high up on the rankings. I am just submitting this because I am curious (heh, get it?) about where I place with my first "well made" original!

Also, credit where credit is due: Thank you I'm A Track Man from the Famitracker forums for giving me some advice on the arpeggios in the beggining.

Enjoy if you can! ;)

End transmission.

Thank you.

I wrote this little tune on my school laptop when I was in my family's summer cabin a few weeks ago. Since we do not have any access to the internet there I cannot get distracted by the evils of YouTube so I get a little bit more creative with my spare time I guess.

I am glad someone can stand it. I personally have very mixed feelings about everything I write. It feels like whatever I do I just cannot get it the way I want it to sound. But enough rambling, it is time to look at my competition to see how stomped I will get. ^^

Yeah, not bad at all. Reminds me of Zero's music a little :) I also admire this for going up against the expansion chip entries. I guess one criticism I do have is that the progression could use a bit of variation

Thanks Warheart and Fearofdark!

Technically it might not be my "first original", but it is my first finished song and my first listenable original so that is why I call it my first original.

I guess I can see where you are coming from with the Zero thing, but I see my music as more directly influenced by a combination of Rob Hubbard and Neil Baldwin. That might just be me though. I take being compared to Zero as a compliment since his stuff is really good. :D

Yeah, I did get kinda unimaginative with the progression in this one. It seems to be a little problem I have when composing, I just use the same progression for a while and then do some weird transition out of it into another chord progression that is repeated for a while. But in this one I do not think I switch up the single channel echo throughout the entire song which is pretty bad. :P

And another thing I freaking suck at is percussion. I can never get creative and interesting with it, so I just make some hard hitting kicks and snares and call it good enough. I probably should practice at making some good Noise Channel stuff.

(I have joined another community and with me comes my long, wordy and very serious posts. Hell yeah!)

(Holy crap! The competition in the .nsf+ category is insane! So many good tracks! I am totally screwed. :( )

Curious, stop worrying about whether you're going to win! nobody is going to win on their first try. this is my first entry too. it seems like you're more scared of success than you are of failure!

also, I don't think there's necessarily a problem with a lack of clear progression. it just makes it sound more like a video game soundtrack than a standalone "normal" song. nothing wrong with that. besides, you'll get better as you compose more stuff. stop worrying about getting your early stuff perfect and just focus on composing as much as possible, and the improvements will come on their own :)

homskillet, I don't fear success nor do I worry about winning, since I have no reason to do such things. I am just very self-critical of stuff I create, probably a little too self-critical for my own sanity. I guess I have some sort of obsession with comparing my own stuff with other peoples' works, and then bashing my own creations for not having the same musical and technical level as the more experienced and talented musicians. I feel that my music is just not up to par even though I have only composed one "good" original and a few covers so far. I just want to deliever quality stuff but can never seem to do so due to my lack of experience with creating music and for some reason that makes me hate my own works. My guess, for the reasoning behind this, is that I am just insane.

My insanity does not stop me from composing though, it just stops me from enjoying my own works as much. I do still enjoy the making of it and I will definitely keep doing this for as long as I find it enjoyable.

Also, thank you for your enouraging words. :) (I liked your song, it was very athmospheric and chill. It might not be the most complicated piece of music ever created but it was enjoyable and a great listen!)

Oooooo..... Thanks Zath!

I am glad you liked it. Incase you were wondering it was composed in E natural minor, I think.

It started out as a test for my scale program, just to see if it was working as intented and this is song is what happened after a few days of messing around with the scale.

(Posts of doom! I just like making these long posts I guess. xD)

Oh, you guys.... you are making me blush. It is very encouraging to here such kind words. Lately I've been having a drought of creativity so I have not been able to compose anything at all but with all of this appreciation thrown at my face it just makes my day so much better. Thanks!

How in the hell did this one get placed 82nd when a lot of really good entries placed in the bottom half?! Some of my favourite entries placed waaay below where they deserved to. Get your voting straight people!

@Tilde, I know right? Even the thought of someone being self-critical and not enjoying their own works is sickening to me.

Why should one critcise their own creation?! It just makes no sense at all. It is a good thing that no one does that, otherwise I would not know how to react.
