I was confused why there was only 100 formats despite the site having 108, but I think I've made sense of it now:
-0cc and adlib are missing for obvious reasons, since they're retired
-sample is missing since "covering something as a sample" is just hard to wrap one's head around
-gbstudio is missing since the major that introduced it didn't conclude until after the May 11th cutoff for the contest
-(also works out that both the newest and (i think) the oldest format are missing with gbstudio and sample)
-all 4 "battleart" formats are missing, since there's no battle art to make

@RevvoBolt I was also surprised to find myself on the cover, but quickly realized the pattern. Each of the 10 rows is a year, populated by the 10 highest-level users that joined in that year. More obvious instances of this are kleeder being at the far left of the 2017-2018 row and damifortune being at the far left of the 2020-2021 row. Which I guess means I'm the second most leveled-up user of the past year? That's... kind of surprising, given that I haven't been nearly as active as some others.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure even if someone wanted to reboot their own entries it's not allowed for this contest? Or at least is against the spirit of it, from what I gathered when I polled some of the community members about it. I believe the reasoning behind that is because you can always reboot your own music without it being a cover, whereas this is a rare chance to reboot other people's music as a form of appreciation, and using this contest just to polish your own work kind of defeats the purpose.

I'd lean towards the "being creative" aspect, but I guess it's also worth mentioning that I also think it's cool to be fairly liberal with interpretations of source material, as long as you feel like you understand the ways it's being true to the source. whatever inspires you about the thing should probably inform the cover, right? anyway, just my opinion but sure I totally think you should be able to do that. maybe explain it to voters a bit

hello! I don't think there is any clear way to *just* browse the ten years of valid entries altogether, but there are a few ways to look through entries in general:

- the entry browser, which lets you filter by format and sort by a few different parameters
- the major battles page, which you can browse by year
- the XHBs page, which is just a big chronological list but once you get a few months back will be a basically infinite feed lol.
- the radio for a random-ish player of all entries, some of which will not be within the date range but many of which will!
- individual users' profiles, favorites, and playlists

this has come up a couple times now, but as far as I can tell we (the admins) have not made an actual post here about it: covering an illegal cover entry is also illegal

take care when looking through entries to cover - usually entries that are covers will have already been tagged as such, but some of them are legal (covers of BotB entries such as DD1 or from the era where "BotB entry cover" OHBs were legal) and others are not legal (covers of anything external to BotB, like the Mario theme).

not all of them may be tagged; I'm posting this 'cause such a case just happened. I think it's fine to approach in good faith and if you didn't know, you didn't know. if it gets discovered, ideally it should be replaced later if you can. it might get downvoted.

I understand that the entry period is super long. But there are people like me, who could barely work intermittently on a single song. The song proved to be more complicated than I expected (spoiler: it's from Petet, so I should have already know it wasn't gonna be an easy task). I'm now struggling to finish it, but there's no way I'll complete it on time.

I feel especially bad when I just discovered, not one, but two amazing covers from one of my most beloved songs.

It's not about the gigantic time we were given (and yes, my time management sucks), but about the fact that, if the songs are not finished, it's over. Absolutely over. It's not like yearly majors when you can hold your song for the next year. Dang, not even for the next 10 years, since the valid time range will change.

Still reeling with excitement this morning! Thank you everyone for joining and of course for the generosity of your votes. Naturally I was beyond chuffed to collect so many performist medals, and I'd also like to broadcast a very thankful shoutout to Kevin's, Leo's, and Gwen & Layna's covers of my own entries, which all medalled in their respective formats.
